Day 8 was at free disposal.
Most people did some organised tour, as a catamaran boat tour or a flight but as I did not fancy any of them, I spent the day exploring Swakopmund walking around for hours.
Swakopmund is such a peculiar town.
You know you are in Namibia and the majority of people are black but several of the buildings in the town centre are still from the beginning of the 20th century built by the Germans, there are still quite many traces of that history, I found a German bakery where I could have ordered my stuff in German with hearing Namibians saying the word "Schweineohr" (pig's ear in English, which is a popular pastry in Germany and I had to get one) was cute.
I visited the small aquarium, walked along the beach for a while (even if it was rather cloudy in afternoon), had a drink at the Tiger Reef Bar & Grill a bit away from the centre
I also did some shopping while walking around, bought some tourist stuff but also found
Plain & Purl, a wonderful shop selling wool, mainly imported from Europe but also selling the stunning brand
Vinnis Colours from South Africa - I so had to buy some yarn balls being such a yarn junkie. Just couldn't resist! ;-)
