On day 3 we were off to the Fish River Canyon, well not the actual canyon as that was on the agenda for the day after but to our lodge, the beautiful Canyon village with its Cape Dutch cottages surrounded by stunning rock formations.
Enroute we visited the Giant's Playground, a vast pile of large dolerite rocks, and a Quiver Tree Forest (Kokerboom Woud in Afrikaans) several km north-east of Keetmanshoop, stopped over at the cool Canyon Roadhouse Lodge and watched a heavy sandstorm including (what might have been) dust devils. All looked impressive and scary at the same time.
Even our tour guide told us she'd never witnessed such strong sandstorm in that area in her 18 years as a tour guide!
Once at the lodge the storm was gone and we could enjoy the beautiful location with blue skies, watched a pretty sunset (though not as impressive as in the Kalahari due to some clouds) and just relaxed.
