While I did not like St. Moritz too much Zermatt on the other hand was lovely. Yes, it is a tourist-y place with most houses most probably being hotels, B&Bs etc. but the location has charm and is not so snobbish as St. Moritz. I certainly liked it there and if I wanted to go properly hiking again in the future it would be one of my choices.
Staying at the Europe Hotel & Spa which is not bang in the middle of the village meant I had to cross the whole village from the train station (I left my large bag at the train station in one of the lockers as didn't fan y to take it with me just taking the bits with me I needed for one night) - certainly a wonderful hotel.
I just had a single room, rather small but for one night totally okay and with it being off season it had been a total bargain anyway paying just around 55 EUR.
Weather was also most amazing especially when taking the train up the Gornergrat mountain where you have most stunning views of I do not know how many high mountains.
Going through my pictures later though I did wonder about how many pictures of the famous Matterhorn I took... ;-)
Zermatt is a car free town so you just have the tiny electric cars |
even the police car is an electric car! |
