Nine days Switzerland by train using a Swiss Pass - a trip I had wanted to do for ages:
It all started with taking the train from Hamburg to Basel on 24th September where I stayed a night before exploring the rest of Switzerland.
Such train passes are brilliant: in this case at a price of 384 CHF/320 EUR I could use pretty much all Swiss trains for eight days - including the famous panoramic trains (but a supplement payable) - plus got discounts on several cable cars, rack railway trains as up to the Jungfraujoch, free entry to a huge number of museums...
Arriving in Basel around noon, I first checked into my so-so hotel but for one night it was okay before I was off to explore the city.
Having passed it I do not know how often on my several trips to Zurich I had never been to the city itself before. What a mistake – such a beautiful city even in the rain as when arrived it rained for an hour but got suddenly sunny later. Lovely.
I just walked around the city for hours returning to the hotel late in the evening after watching a beautiful sunset.
