South Africa Roundtrip - Day 15 - Journey to Cape Town

On day 15 we were finally off to Cape Town taking the R62, apparently the route 66 of South Africa.
Well, never been on the route 66 but the R62, also known as the wine route, was certainly impressive and scenic with some amazing views passing farming towns, fruit growing and wine producing towns, mountains etc. - just to sit on the coach and let the countryside go by was so peaceful and calming.

Lunch break was at the Rooiberg Winery for quick but good food (though lunch break was a bit longer than our guide wanted it to be).
Another stop was at the Karoo National Botanical Gardens. It was already off season for most plants so there was not that much flowering to see but still an interesting garden that cultivates and displays a wide variety of desert and semi-desert plants.

The ultimate highlight of the day then was going up to the table mountain in Cape Town once we arrived in the city.
With it nearly always being windy in Cape Town and there being days when you cannot go up our guide slightly changed around actual tour plans and instead of visiting it on Tuesday, we did it straight away that afternoon.
What an experience to go up there by cableway!
The view over Cape Town, the peninsula and the bays is just breathtaking.
I only wished we had more time to do  a proper hiking tour up there but as it was already rather late in the afternoon time was short.
I'd never been sure why people raved so much about it, yes, going up a mountain and a view over a city sounds great but other cities offer similar things but the feeling up there in Cape Town is, I do not know, but just special.
Sounds weird? Maybe, but it felt special and different to other cities.

Our hotel for tonight and the next four nights was at the Southern Sun Cape Sun, a 30ish floor high tower building in the city centre of Cape Town.
Unfortunately my room only had view over the bay or as much as you could see of it with other high buildings partly blocking the view while others had a view over the table mountain. Oh well.. (and do not get me started on how the porters managed to deliver my bag to the wrong room at first and being rude when I asked for it. And when they found it being funny about getting it to my room and whether I would be able to bring it up myself when originally they got tipped for bringing it to the right room...)

Dinner was at the hotel - buffet style and while I skipped the main dishes as nothing exciting vegetarian, their starter section was very vegetarian friendly and yummy!
